Scabs getting wet yellow pits after facelift – Is this a normal healing variation?
Scabs 2 weeks after facelift
May 27, 2019
Thank you for your question. The pictures are not really clear, but seem to show a scab behind the ear, the size of the dime.
This is called epidermolysis and is a partial or total necrosis of the skin in that area.
First, I’d like to reassure you that this is likely going to be ok. It probably will not going to negatively impact your results in the long term in a very significant way.
This scabbing is related to tenuous blood supply to the skin in that area (…
What can be done to fix my nose?
Revision Rhinoplasty
May 26, 2019
Thank you for your question.
Without additional information and photos it makes hard to give you valuable advice. Revision rhinoplasty is a carry challenging procedure and it can take a very long time to heal. The swelling can take longer than 1 year to resolve after revision surgery (especially for patients with thicker skin). During the healing phase patients can also have asymmetries that will settle down over time and become symmetrical – and on the other hand, asymmetries can…
What kind of doctor should I see? I want my nose to to be more symmetrical.
Rhinoplasty surgeon
May 21, 2019
Thank you for your question. It’s hard to give you a plan based on your photograph alone. I recommend you see a Facial Plastic Surgeon or a Plastic Surgeons with Rhinoplasty experience- make sure this is a big part of the surgeons practice, look for reviews from rhinoplasty patients and before and after photos. After a proper exam, your surgeon should be able to tell you what can be realistically achieved.
Good luck!
What is happening with this infection/pimple/black scabbing in my nostril?
Nostril scabbing
May 16, 2019
Thank you for your question. Scabbing and redness in the nostrils are not uncommon after rhinoplasty and do not necessarily mean the nose has an infection. Infection typically will present with worsening pain and redness over the skin. Meningitis will typically be associated with fever and severe headaches. The use of antibiotics is sometimes used as a preventative measure and also to decrease the bacterial counts on the nose and speed up the healing process.
I wouldn’t w…
Is a burning sensation on lip after rhinoplasty common?
Lip burning sensation after rhinoplasty
May 13, 2019
Dear bryanna0216,
Thank you for your question. Patients can experience some different sensations/feelings on the lip and upper teeth after a rhinoplasty. These will depend on the patient and also the extent of surgery performed – such as a caudal septoplasty, surgical dissection of the tip and upper lip and so on. Whichever these symptoms are (different patients will describe things differently), they should subside quickly after surgery and resolve completely within weeks. Patients…
Is It the Nicotine Itself That Constricts Blood Vessels?
Nicotine & Facelift surgery
Jul 26, 2018
Nicotine does constrict blood vessels, and, therefore could decrease the blood supply to the skin creating issues with healing. This is true whether the nicotine is coming from cigarettes, e-cigs devices, gum, patch and so on. Not every smoker will have problems healing, but there is certainly an increase in risk. I recommend that patients stop using nicotine for 3-4 weeks prior to facelift and often plan for treatments with hyperbaric oxygen after surgery to improve healing (if needed)….
Effective and Long-lasting Procedure for Lifting Jowls?
Procedures to lift jowls
Jul 26, 2018
The best way to remove jowls and restore the jawline is with a lower facelift. This procedure will tighten the muscle layer under the skin re-contouring the lower face/jaw area and neck. Fillers can give some improvement but will be temporary. You should look for a board-certified surgeon in your area that has experience with facelift surgery. Good luck!
One Side of my Face Lower Than the Other?
Facial asymmetry
Jul 12, 2018
It is completely normal to have some degree of asymmetry on the face – most people do. Even people (celebrities) that are considered to be beauty icons can have significant asymmetries. At age 26, it does seem to me that is way too young to consider a facelift procedure, but some small asymmetries could be improved with fillers. I would suggest you see a board certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who is dedicate to facial procedures for a consultation. Good luck!
Best Procedure for Firming Neck and Chin?
Firming the neck and chin
Jul 12, 2018
There are several options to improve the appearance of the neck and submental region (chin). The non-invasive treatments would be botox (to relax neck platysmal bands), ultherapy and radiofrequency devices (to tighten the skin). There are minimally invasive procedures that also use radiofrequency to tighten the skin. More invasive procedures would be a neck lift with or without platysmaplasty.
The best thing to do is to see a board certified facial plastic surgeon or…
Facelift Recovery
Facelift recovery
Jul 9, 2018
Generally speaking, recovery after a facelift can take from 1 to 2 weeks. Some patients will be very presentable in 1 week while other may take a few more days to get to that point. It depends on several factors: the type of facelift, if additional procedures were performed at the same time (fat transfer, skin resurfacing, etc), presence of other health problems, use of certain medications, and so on.
After 1 week, most patients return to their regular activity and are…
Facial Microcurrent: Do They Work Like a Facelift?
Facial Microcurrent like Facelift
Jul 9, 2018
Unfortunately, the answer is no – microcurrent will not work like a facelift.
Facial microcurrent involves a mild stimulation of the facial muscles with electricity. The main concept is with stimulation, the facial muscles will get a better tone and therefore the face will have a more youthful appearance. Although it would make sense, that toning the SMAS, which contains muscle fibers, could improve one’s appearance, I’m not aware of any evidence that it actually happens. At the…
Can doing massages to the nose after rhinoplasty help narrow the nose?
Nose massage after rhinoplasty
Jul 28, 2017
Thabk you for your question.
Yes- nasal massage is and important portion of the postoperative care. I routinely demonstrate to my patients how to massage and recommend that they do that about three times a day. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, I suggest you discuss that with her surgeon and perhaps him/her can give you additional instructions on how to perform the massage in a way that will be effective and also tolerable. Good luck.
I was told by Medical Spa that it was OK to do a chemical peel after Botox. Second opinion?
Chemical peel after botox
Jul 27, 2017
Thank you for your question
Yes- a chemical peel 3 days after botox should’ve completely safe.
Good luck
My nose looks wide and thick after rhinoplasty surgery is this just swelling?
Swelling after rhinoplasty
Jul 24, 2017
Thank you for your question. It’s normal for your nose to be swollen in the first several months after rhinoplasty. Particularly when a significant reduction in the dorsal hump and nasal tip are performed.
Continue to follow-up with your surgeon and discuss with him/her nasal massage and possible steroid injections to help the postoperative swelling.
Good luck
Recommendation for mittleman prejowl chin implant size large, do you agree?
Chin implant
Jul 24, 2017
Thank you for your question.
It’s hard to precisely discuss the ideal implant size based on the photographs alone. However, I would imagine that a large implant would work well. My preference is to try implants of different sizes in the OR and see which one actually fits best. Some surgeons prefer to carve the implang too- depends on his/hers individual preference.
Good luck
