How many types of silicone implants are there and which is the most recommended?
Implant types
May 17, 2018
There are only about 4 major companies in the US providing breast implants.  Allergan, Mentor, Sientra, and IDEAL implant.  They all make excellent products and are FDA approved.  Not every surgeon will carry every brand.  In fact, it would probably be too confusing for the surgeon as well.  In my opinion you can get beautiful results with any of these brands.  The type and size of implant that is recommended to you should be based largely on your body type and the measurements that your p…

Recovery After Breast Augmentation
May 17, 2018
It is not uncommon for patients to feel the edge of the implant, especially during certain arm positions.  It sounds like you are fine, but it would be best advised to call your plastic surgeon and have them check as well.  Best of luck!

Breast wound
Feb 20, 2018
This is a common problem when patients have surgery out of the country.  This needs to be evaluate by a board certified Plastic Surgeon in your area.  The problem is that you have an implant underneath and if it becomes exposed or infected then it will likely have to come out.  With proper wound care and oversight by a plastic surgeon this may go onto heal without any issue.  Best of luck!

Revisions after surgery
Feb 20, 2018
This is a good question and one that should be discussed with your surgeon BEFORE surgery.  It really depends what the revision is and how large or small it is.  Often times small revisions in the office can be done at little to no expense to the patient.  Larger revisions that require going back to the operating room usually require the patient the pay at least the anesthesia and the OR fees.  Surgeons will vary as far as their fees go.  If the revision is above and beyond what the firs…

Mommy Makeover recovery
Feb 20, 2018
I usually tell patients that they should expect to be back to most normal activities by around 6 weeks after a TT and breast lift.  I’m talking about being back to full activity.  Most patients need some assistance for the first 2 weeks and then start to progress quite rapidly after that.  Of course everyone is a little different in their recovery.  Best advise it to strictly follow the post op instructions given to you by your board certified plastic surgeon.  Best of luck!
I’m breast feeding my 3 month old, how long do I need to wait before I can get my breast done?
Breast Feeding before surgery
Feb 20, 2018
My rule is that patients need to be completed with breast feeding about 6 months before having breast surgery.  The reason for this is that the breast undergo a lot of changes after you stop breastfeeding.  It makes sense that you would want your breasts to completely settle so that you get the best results after your surgery.  If you have surgery too soon, your breasts may undergo normal post breastfeeding changes and you may end up with a sub optimal result.  Best of luck!
I’m not sure if I need a lift or not?
Lift or implants
Feb 16, 2018
Based on the picture you provided you will probably benefit most from a lift and implants.  The best way to find out is to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.  One quick test you can do on yourself is to see where your nipple is sitting relative to your breast fold.  If the nipple is below the level of the fold, then you will probably need to have a lift as well.  Best of luck!
Muscular chest. Should I lay off chest exercises prior to getting the BA?
exercise before surgery
Feb 16, 2018
I don’t have any problems with patients working out right before their surgery.  I do ask that all breast augmentation patients refrain from upper body workouts for one month after surgery.  This just gives the muscle a chance to heal.  As tough as it may be not to work out for one month it will definitely be worth it in the long run.  I also recommend you discuss with your surgeon regarding placement of the implant above vs. below the muscle and what this implies.  Best of luck with your…
Which implants are the safest?
safest implants
Feb 16, 2018
This is a common question for patients.  I think that silicone and saline implants are both safe.  Silicone has been on the market for a very long time as well and has a proven track record of safety.  There is no doubt that the newer generation of silicone implants (like the soft touch) is much better than what was available 10-20 years ago.  I don’t believe you are taking a risk choosing a silicone implant these days.  Saline provides the “peace of mind” factor in that you know right away…
I’m planning on getting a breast augmentation. Will I have to get a lift? I’m really hoping I do
lift with implants
Feb 16, 2018
I think that you will likely benefit from both a lift and implants.  The risk you run by doing implants alone is that your breast tissue might “hang” off the end of the implant and create a long appearing breast.  Ideally, your nipple should be centered over the center of the implant.  Although a lift does involve some more incisions on your breast, it will be well worth it in the long run.  I would recommend a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can perform a tho…
CoolSculpting or Lipo? Or something else?
coolsculpting or lipo
Feb 16, 2018
I think you will get a different answer from different people depending on who you ask.  Correcting an asymmetry like you showed in your picture can require some finesse.  Coolsculpting can do a good job at debulking an area such as the area below the buttock, but it will not be able to provide definition of your crease or make small adjustments.  You may in fact do best with some very targeted liposuction to help better define the gluteal crease in this area.   I would recommend seein…

Fat after coolsculpting
Feb 14, 2018
This is a great question.  You are correct that there are still fat cells remaining after the coolsculpting procedure.  The remaining fat cells actually get larger when a person gains weight.  Your body will still want to deposit fat in the normal areas where you gain weight.  It will not come back in strange spots.  I hope this helps.
5 months post op breast lift do my scars look ok?
Scars after breast lift
Nov 21, 2017
It looks like you are healing right on track.  I like to advise my patients to wait at least a full year for the scars to settle.  Everyone heals a little different and surgeons have different protocols for their patients to follow.  It looks like you are well on your way to a great result!
Breast lift possible with small breasts? After an explant my areola and nipple has collapsed in
Lift procedures
Nov 21, 2017
Thank you for your question and photo.  In order to achieve what you are looking for I think you will need to add a small amount of volume back to your breasts.  This is most commonly done with a small implant or using your own fat.  I would recommend a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can perform a full evaluation in person.  Best of luck!
How to find the best supportive bra while still healing after a BA?
Bra after augmentation
Nov 12, 2017
I actually prefer that my patients wear a soft bra after augmentation.  I recommend a soft post op bra, a loose fitting sports bra, or a camisole top.  I typically don’t recommend anything very tight because we want the implants to be able to “drop” into place and not stay too high on the chest.  Post op protocols vary between surgeons, so the best advise is to call your surgeons office to ask specifically what they would like you to do after surgery.  Best of luck!
