When is the best time to start a facelift? How may facelifts can I safely do in a lifetime?
Aging Occurs at Different Rates
Feb 2, 2017
Facial aging doesn't follow a timeline. While some patients are ready for a facelift in their 40s, others may still look quite youthful. The "right" time for a facelift is not attached to any age — it's when you have developed signs of aging that can be resolved through surgery. If you see a significant amount of sagging or laxity in your lower face, then it may be time to see a surgeon. As for subsequent surgeries later in life: A facelift can be trickier to perform thanks to the...
What are the best diets to follow for quicker healing after a facelift?
Vitamin C, Protein, Low Sodium
Feb 2, 2017
After any type of surgery, the body relies partly on protein to help heal itself. Choose lean protein sources such as poultry, fish, eggs, and low-fat cheeses. Vitamin C can help the body process and make the most of that protein intake, so it's a good complement. It's also important to avoid foods with excessive sodium, as this can contribute to unnecessary swelling. Beyond that, the normal guidelines for healthy eating are still applicable after surgery: Stick to nutrient-dense whole foods...
Are my facelift scars progressing normally?
You're Progressing Nicely
Feb 2, 2017
Your photos demonstrate a normal healing process, and at this point I don't think there's any cause for concern. Residual redness may persist for a few more months; scars take quite a while to fully heal. Be sure to follow your surgeon's scar care instructions, and avoid exposing them to direct sunlight as much as possible.
My cosmetic surgeon is recommending doing a facelift and upper and lower eyelids at one time.
Reasonable — And Fairly Common
Feb 2, 2017
Surgeons often decide to combine facial procedures into a single surgery to better advance their patients' goals. In the case of a facelift and blepharoplasty, the combined procedure achieves maximal rejuvenation without 2 separate recovery periods. As long as your surgeon's goals align with your own, I would agree that this is a reasonable suggestion.
Will a face lift get rid of these jowls?
Facelift Is Ideal for Sagging Skin
Feb 2, 2017
Facelift surgery is simply the most effective long-term solution for sagging skin and other age-related complaints of the lower face. Your healthy lifestyle is certainly commendable, but it's important to understand that women who are on the thinner side usually show signs of aging a bit faster, because they have less fat to hold things in place. A traditional facelift can give you a sculpted, defined jawline that will last for years to come.
Only 40 - would a facelift be most effective or something else?
Standard Facelift Can Treat All of These
Feb 2, 2017
A facelift can add good definition to your chin and jawline while also reducing the sagging appearance of your cheeks. Some judicious application of injectable fillers can also enhance your results. I don't think cheek or chin implants are right for you at this time, as they may result in an "overdone" appearance and are unlikely to give you the lift you want. Implants are more effective at creating new proportions for the face, as in the case of a recessed chin. That said, it's important to...
Plastic surgeon won't show me male facelift photos. Is this a red flag?
Find Someone Who Will
Feb 2, 2017
Male facelift patients are generally more reserved about having their before-and-after photos posted online, but your surgeon should certainly have these photos available for viewing in the office. If your surgeon doesn't have them or refuses to show them to you, then I'd consider it a red flag. Be sure you're consulting with board-certified plastic surgeons who have ample experience in facial rejuvenation.
Male having facelift. Will I lose my nice head of hair?
No Major Hair Loss
Feb 2, 2017
Your surgeon is correct. Major hair loss is not a typical side effect of facelift surgery in either male or female patients. In some cases, patients may see temporary hair loss near their incision sites, but this is rarely permanent. Anything that could be characterized as major hair loss is extremely unlikely. You should feel confident moving forward with your facelift without fear of losing your hair.
General plastic surgeon vs. facial plastic surgeon for facelift?
Before & After Photos Are Invaluable
Feb 2, 2017
I commend you for doing your due diligence in researching a plastic surgeon. It sounds like you're asking all the right questions and are on the road to making the best decision for yourself. It may be true that many male patients don't "like" having before-and-after photos taken, but any surgeon with a decent amount of experience should at least have some to show you. Looking at before-and-after photos is an invaluable way to understand how a surgeon's approach translates to results, and...
I am a man, 40, in great health. Do I qualify for a facelift? Or cheeks fat grafting plus neck
Aging Not Advanced Enough for Surgery
Feb 2, 2017
Your photos are quite detailed, and they don't suggest that your facial aging is advanced enough for facelift surgery at this point. Your second and third photos are taken at universally unflattering angles and have little to do with aging or skin quality. When viewed at the side or from eye level, your skin and jawline appear to be in very good condition. I don't believe you'd benefit from surgery just yet, but you can always visit a plastic surgeon in person for a more personalized...
What is the least invasive surgery to lift the Midface?
The Best Safeguard Is Finding a Board-Certified Surgeon
Nov 4, 2016
Providing an accurate answer to your question isn't really possible without photos or knowing the cause of both the ectropion and the droopiness of the left cheek. Ectropions can be age-related, they can develop following blepharoplasty, or they may have many other causes. Surgery to repair your ectropion can be accomplished safely — and the best way to ensure your safety is to seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon. To obtain board certification, a surgeon must complete a rigorous...
Is fat going to return to face and neck if liposuction was performed during facelift?
Ask Your Surgeon For Specifics
Nov 4, 2016
I'm sorry your experience hasn't been positive. Your first step should be to visit the plastic surgeon's office to learn exactly what was done during your surgery. Once that's taken care of, you'll at least understand more about why your face appears to be getting more gaunt. Communication is an essential part of the relationship between a plastic surgeon and patient, and unfortunately for you, that appears be lacking. I hope you are able to get this resolved.
Will insurance cover scars from previous botched facelift.
Probably Not Covered
Nov 4, 2016
Thank you for this question. I'm sorry that you had a negative experience with your facelift. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that a health insurance policy will provide coverage for scars resulting from an elective cosmetic procedure. (The same is true for revision surgery when a patient develops complications or has unsatisfactory results.) If you haven't already done so, consult a board-certified plastic surgeon about scar revision surgery and find out what kind of financing options...
How long after a facelift, browlift and fat transfers can I return to sleeping on my side rath
Speak to Your Surgeon for a Definite Answer
Nov 4, 2016
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble sleeping 3 weeks after your plastic surgery. For patients used to sleeping on their sides, having to sleep on their backs with their heads elevated can be a hardship. I do think that you have passed the critical stage in your recovery and can safely sleep on your side at this point, but it depends on your surgeon's techniques and preferences. I would begin by reviewing the postoperative instructions you received. If you don't see anything specific...
What procedure would I need to correct loose skin from under chin and neck?
Consult With a Board-Certified Surgeon in Person
Nov 4, 2016
Let me begin by congratulating you on such a great accomplishment. Losing a significant amount of weight often leads to concerns about the loose skin that remains. To be honest, though, you look great in the post-weight loss photo you've included, and I'm reluctant to suggest facial plastic surgery at this point. Of course, a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the only way to know for sure whether you could benefit from a neck lift or some other procedure involving the...
