5 months post ARTAS FUE. 750 grafts. Should it be thicker by now?
Growth after hair transplant.
Oct 4, 2023
It is not uncommon for growth to start 4-6 months after hair transplant. By 6 months, you should begin to see growth, so if you are at 5 months post-surgery then I would monitor a little longer. If you do not notice growth at 6 months then I would follow-up with your surgeon.
Contemplating Hair Transplants: Is Waiting Until 25 Necessary?
Hair transplants in young patients
Sep 28, 2023
If you are experiencing hair loss at a young age (before age 25), then it is an indication that you have a strong genetic tendency to continue to lose more hair – as hair loss is progressive over time. Medications should be advised so that hair loss does not continue. Surgery is permanent. If you cannot control hair loss in a young patient then they will end up losing more hair as they age and the transplant will remain while all the surrounding hair thins. The transplant will end up looking…
Have thinning all over my scalp, suitable candidate for a hair transplant?
Thinning all over scalp – hair transplant
Aug 21, 2023
If you have thinning throughout your scalp then you are classified as DUPA (Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia). DUPA should not receive hair transplant and would benefit most from medication (finasteride, minoxidil). If your donor hair is thinning then it means your transplant would thin too. You need to have stable/non-thinning donor hair to be a successful hair transplant candidate.
How long should i wait to get a hair transplant on a recently-revised scar on my lip?
Hair transplant after scar revision
Aug 21, 2023
Often waiting at least 6 months is recommended before adding hair to a scarred region. You will want to wait until the scar is fully healed, i.e. it is no longer pink and now appears white and flat. If it is raised or thickened at all, then steroid injections will be needed to soften the scar. Thick scars have less chance for successful graft take. Scars in general also have less natural blood flow and often multiple hair transplants may be needed to fully disguise the scarred region.
Forehead lowering or transplant? Would transplant look unnatural?
Forehead lowering vs transplant
Aug 21, 2023
If you have good donor hair density at the back and sides of your scalp, then you should consider hair transplant. A forehead lowering procedure often leaves you with a noticeable line scar at the top of your forehead. Many patients who have forehead lowering procedures then will also later want hair transplant to disguise the visible scar with hair in front of it. You can also use hair transplant to hide the scars from your brow lift if they are visible.
How do you identify TE with AGA?
TE and AGA
Aug 21, 2023
Both TE and AGA regularly occur together. Often, a TE shed (from a trigger such as medications) will alert someone to hair loss and then dermoscopy examination will also reveal AGA in addition. The SSRI medications are not triggering the AGA. These medications can trigger TE and a biopsy would tell you if both are occurring at once. TE-related shed self-resolves after 1-2 years if the trigger is stopped. If you also have AGA, then that will be treated with medications such as…
Is Finasteride needed after hair transplant?
Finasteride after hair transplant
Aug 21, 2023
While finasteride is the most effective FDA-approved medication for male genetic thinning, you could also consider medication such as oral minoxidil, which will not risk exposure to your cat as the topical version would have. Medications will help prevent further thinning so that you do not have to repeat transplants as you continue to thin. Both finasteride and oral minoxidil can help to regrow/thicken hair after 1 year of use, but finasteride will work more effectively than minoxidil.
