Hello and thank you for your question. It's understandable to be concerned about alar scaring as it is a delicate area for operation. If the procedure is not executed perfectly, there will be scars. Once healed, though, it is possible to have revision treatment to diminish the appearance of the scars. I would recommend speaking with your surgeon about his/her experience performing the specific surgery you're considering and then discuss options for scar revision if it becomes necessary.

It certainly is possible to reduce the appearance of folliculitis scars with laser resurfacing. Of course, it's difficult to give you a definitive answer (also as to the type of laser) without a medical examination, but laser resurfacing is often used to reduce the appearance of scars. It works by stimulating new collagen growth around the treated area. Regarding recovery time, it can be anywhere from 3-10 days and you're correct - the area of concern for you may produce a more unique recovery.

Your frustration is understandable! There is good news - you can address chronic folliculitis with laser hair removal treatments.
