Temporal Fascia — Used as blanket cover and potential complications?
Revision of over-resected bridge
Apr 6, 2017
RevisionSeeker23,
Revision rhinoplasty will frequently utilize costal cartilage, fascia, and other forms of autologous grafting material (meaning from your own body). Autologous material is safe and will not disrupt blood flow. You are correct to consider costal cartilage if there was a large amount resected from the dorsum (nasal bridge). You are doing the right thing to research the revision surgery well before proceeding.
My preference for autologous tissue that will “blanket…
Wondering if large dorsal hump and uneven nostrils very rare that I can actually breathe out of my no
Repairing breathing problem and nose shape
Feb 9, 2017
Your multiple photos are helpful to identify a couple issues that affect the internal airflow and outward appearance of your nose. Your breathing is likely due at least in part to a deviated septum and a collapsing of the internal nasal valves. On the outside, your base view leans (septal deviation) and the dorsum, or bridge of the nose, is sunken in between the bony hump and tip (valve collapse).
To develop a surgical plan that corrects all of this at the same time,…
How difficult is it to lengthen the nose and change the nasolabial angle to make the nostrils less pr
Lengthening the nose
Feb 9, 2017
The short answer to your question about “is this difficult?” is yes. The second question about his experience is not one that can be answered from the quoted numbers alone.
To elaborate some, here are some observations about lengthening a nose. Lengthening the caudal septum to change the nasolabial angle is not the hard part. Your goal (as interpreted from your first remarks) is to make the nose less upturned and with less nostril show. This requires lengthening more than the…
Asymmetrical nostrils and columella. What needs to be done?
Correcting assymetric nostrils
Feb 9, 2017
Your question about changing nostril symmetry is a good one and somewhat complex. You alluded to one such complex variable, the columella. The other is the ala complex. Although you did a nice photoshop simulation, the result is still not completely symmetric. The tip cartilage asymmetry is contributing to the nostril differences as well, and thus is a third variable. With a complete exam of all sides of the nose, one could recommend a more specific plan for you.
Generally speaking,…
Should I leave well enough alone with nostril flare?
Widening nostrils with smiling
Feb 9, 2017
Great question to ask both your surgeon and other experts before “leaving well enough alone.” Your pictures correctly illustrate a dynamic nostril flair which is different than a static one. Without seeing the base view, photo assessment is a bit limited; however, the flair of your nostrils is likely related to the hanging columella more than an enlarged nostril. You might consider delaying the base reduction (nostril flair correction) until after the revision of the tip and columella…
Is it possible to lower my nostrils after rhinoplasty?
Correcting nostril show
Feb 9, 2017
The increased visibility of nostrils on front view can occur with too much tip rotation or notching of the rims. The correction of this can involve surgical revision aimed at counter rotating the tip or repairing the notching. In either case, there are numerous techniques that can achieve these goals, and the best one for you would require a more thorough exam and history of your prior surgery. I hope this helps you as you begin your research of this issue.
Can I use a netipot after revision rhinoplasty?
Saline irrigation safety after rhinoplasty
Feb 9, 2017
Best wishes on a smooth recovery!
Postop instructions are closely guided by your surgeon and you should contact his/her office before trying something if you are not certain. Nasal saline irrigation after surgery is typically safe IF you use sterile saline when the wounds are not completely closed, there is no active bleeding, there is no packing or nasal dressing that could be disturbed, AND you have the approval of you operating surgeon.
