Effective and Long-lasting Procedure for Lifting Jowls?
Long Lasting Results
Feb 9, 2018
You ask an excellent question, which looks at the difference between volume loss and changes over time due to gravity. As we age, we lose facial volume and have the skin stretch due to gravity. Jowls can form over time, often because of both volume loss and gravity. Having Restylane is a temporary way to fill the volume loss of the marionette lines, but does not treat the sagging skin and soft tissues that form the jowls. For long-lasting results, a facelift with fat transfer to the m…
Facelift Recovery
Facelift Recovery Time
Feb 9, 2018
In my practice, most patients spend the first 10-14 days after surgery recovering before spending significant time at work or social settings. If you have hair that covers the incisions around your ears, then you will be able to return to work even earlier. Adding other surgeries with the facelift, such as brow lift, eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), or lower eye bag surgery, can make the recovery period slightly longer.
I Had Botox Inject to the Sides of my Nose and Bridge from a Derm and It Has Left Dents in my Nose? W

Seeing your dermatologist may help. You might also want to see the surgeon who did the revision rhinoplasty.
Hooded Eyelids, Asian Eyelid Surgery?
You already have a crease, so excising skin should help.
May 7, 2013
The major purpose for Asian blepharoplasty is to create or alter a crease in the upper eyelid in order to have a “double eyelid.” You appear to have a natural crease, and if you are happy about the height of this crease, removing excess skin should provide an excellent result.

Anchor blepharoplasty is used to create a crease, which you already have. However, this can be very useful if you want to alter your crease (make it higher or lower, or change its shape).

Is It Common for a Lower Eyelid Skin Pinch to Alter the Shape of One’s Eye?
When Done Appropriately, Lower Lid Skin Pinch Does Not Alter Eyelid Shape
Aug 25, 2011
When done for the appropriate reasons (e.g., excess skin of the lower lid, as well as good lower lid "tightness," on exam by your facial plastic surgeon, among other things), the skin pinch does not commonly cause rounding of the lower eyelid. That said, over-aggressive skin removal can lead to problems, including change in the shape of your eyelids.
Is It Safe to Have Botox on Anti Depressants?
Botox can be used when on anti-depressants
Apr 11, 2011
There is certainly no contra-indication to having Botox injected while one is taking anti-depressants. That said, you should always share with your doctor any and all medications you are taking (including vitamins and supplements and non-Western medications, such as Chinese medicine) during your first visit. On follow-up visits, you should let your physician know about any changes in your treatment regimen. This will help ensure higher quality care. Good luck!

Numbness After Scalp Injury
Numbness is not uncommon after scalp injury
Apr 6, 2011
The numbness that you feel will contribute to a feeling of swelling in the area that is numb, regardless if you actually have any swelling. In addition, because much of the sensation across the top of the scalp is supplied by sensory nerves that run from the level of your eyebrows up and over your head, a deep cut will likely injure them and cause numbness behind the cut.

Sensation may return to this area over the course of weeks to months. Often, when sensation first begins to…

Brow Lift – What Happens if my Eyebrows Are Lifted Too High and I End Up with a ‘Shocked Look’?
Avoid a surprised look after Brow Lift Surgery
Mar 28, 2011
Being worried about looking shocked or surprised after brow lift surgery is a legitimate concern. However, contemporary brow lifts generally tend to shy away from pulling the eyebrows too high during surgery. In fact, the goal is often to maintain your eyebrows in the correct position while they are at rest. As most of us age, we begin to use the muscles in our foreheads to raise our eyebrows so that we can see. This worsens over time, and we develop wrinkles in the forehead. A brow lift…
Could a Brow Lift Help Sinus Pain Cause when I Pull Mine Up
Pain from the sinuses will not improve from a browlift
Mar 28, 2011
If your pain is caused by sinus pressure or inflammation, a brow lift should not improve your pain. The principal objective of any brow lift is to raise the brows, which is most commonly a cosmetic goal. If you are interested in an aesthetic improvement of your upper face, including the brow and forehead, a brow lift is a good idea. However, if you are primarily interested in pain relief, you should first have a thorough evaluation of your sinuses by a qualified physician.
Numbness and Pulling After Brow Lift
Numbness after a coronal browlift
Mar 28, 2011
Given that you had the surgery four years ago, the numbness and discomfort associated with the surgery you have in your scalp is unlikely to resolve. This is one of the possible disadvantages of the coronal browlift. Seeing a pain specialist or a neurologist may help you reduce the discomfort with heat, cold, and stress. Visiting your surgeon may be of benefit as well, as only he or she knows the exact procedure performed and may have recommendations based on this knowledge.
Changing my Eyes into Asian Looking Eyes?
Creating “Asian eyes” in a Caucasian is risky
Mar 28, 2011
I recommend against pursuing this procedure, as the risks may very well outweigh the benefits. You will likely need an aggressive lateral canthopexy and possibly even a midface and forehead lift in order to alter the position of the outer corners of the eyes. In addition, you will need fat grafting to provide your upper eyelids with a fuller appearance. Although you should see a surgeon in consultation in order to obtain a definitive answer regarding your cosmetic concern, I would advise…
How Long Will Blepharoplasty Scars and Area Be Numb?
Numbness after eyelid surgery may last several months
Mar 28, 2011
Dry eyes and numbness around the incisions made for your blepharoplasty can persist for several months. Numbness usually resolves in a matter of months. However, dry eyes are more variable, depending on your personal medical history (e.g., if you had dry eyes before surgery), the technique used for your surgery, and the tightness of your eyelid skin and associated muscles.

The best way to find out if the dry eye is more serious is to see your doctor. Often, patience is rewarded by…

Fever After Nose Surgery
Fever after nose surgery
Mar 24, 2011
If you currently have a fever, seeing your surgeon to make certain you don't have an infection in your nose is a good idea. Although your fever might be unrelated to surgery and/or unrelated to your nose, fevers after surgery can have many causes, and seeing your doctor is the first step to a safe and uneventful recovery.

If you were not prescribed the Zithromax for this specific fever (and a bacterial infection), I do not recommend that you take the antibiotics on your own….

Can I Get the Same Results of Silhouette Threads with a Liquid Facelift ( with Fillers )?
The Liquid Facelift
Mar 23, 2011
Threadlifts have largely fallen out of favor because the results haven't been as good as originally advertised. Also, at 28 years old, you may benefit from fillers that can provide you with the facial contours you desire in a simple office visit. Best of luck!
Time off for a Mini Face Lift?
Recovery after a mini-facelift generally takes about a week
Mar 23, 2011
I generally tell my mini-facelift patients that they will be mostly recovered in the 7-10 days following the procedure. It's important to remember that looking good does not mean that you have fully healed after surgery; I recommend against strenuous physical activity (including yoga!) for up to three weeks after surgery. That said, most of my patients are able to do daily activities outside of heavy exercise within 7-10 days.

All the best – J Chow, MD
