Very good question.
The ISHRS is a good start, but there are minimal requirements to be a member. FISHRS is a much higher qualification, meaning the surgeon is truly committed to performing hair restoration surgeon. IAHRS is a consumer watch organization that uses stringent requirements to be accepted. American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery is similarly a consumer type board that requires passing of an oral and written exam and as well signifies commitment to the specialty.

Some of these cases where the scarring is more severe, the entire eyebrow needs to be removed, then as soon as 4 months later we can go back and retransplant the eyebrows. However, this is a radical approach- one that I have used in around 5 prior patients- so a better approach likely in your case is to proceed directly to transplants to restore a nice full look that will largely conceal the redness and create nice eyebrows.

There are a variety of ways to repair a prior poorly performed hair transplant, including individual FUE graft removal, or total hairline excision, all procedures on which i have lectured. I suggest you do your homework and now find a surgeon in whom you can have confidence.

A growing number of patients are presenting with overharvested and or scarred donor areas from FUE. To repair this, most often SMP provides the best outcome, however sometimes grafting with beard hairs can help fill these areas in. Finally, prevention is always key – make sure your surgeon does your procedure and not designate it to per diem technicians who may never see you again, and uses the best FUE devices and punches which reduce scarring.

There is more information missing than included. How old are you? Are you on preventative therapy? How many prior grafts- as it appears that you have been somewhat aggressively harvested? Which of the hairs on the top of your head are transplants and which are original hairs? It is so important that you realize that complete scalp coverage with good density is most likely not a realistic goal, and your expressed interest in doing SMP is a reflection of that recognition.

This is not a typical result after hairline lowering surgery, particularly how wide the scar is on the right side. It is my recommendation that you first undergo a revision hairline advancement to achieve a much finer line scar, then as soon as three months later, if there is still scarring, at that point grafting either through FUE or FUT can be performed, that will also allow for more rounding out if desired.

Simply the answer is No to doing FUT on a male patient under the age of 30 in almost every case. Having performed more than 10,000 FUT procedures and another 4,000 FUE cases, it is important that both options be presented, but that you maintain your options for a short haircut in the future with FUE, assuming you find a surgeon whom you can trust to perform the procedure correctly, not using “for hire” technicians but rather he/she is actively involved in the surgery.

In most cases, the FUE punch needs to be 0.8 or 0.85mm in size- given what you describe as fine hair, the smaller punch should be fine. Use of beard hair in my extensive experience is a great option, but I have to be honest not heard of success with a 0.7mm punch, however even with a 0.8mm recipient punch I have not had any scarring in more than 600 cases.
