Nasal drainage after cocaine
Aug 27, 2017
An interesting fact is that the nose makes about 1-1.5 pints of secretion daily so some drainage is normal. There are many different causes for excessive mucous so it’s best to see an ENT physician who can help diagnose and treat your condition. Best wishes.
I have wide white scars under my ears and into my hairline after a face lift in July 2017. Why has
Wide scars in face lift incisions
Jul 29, 2017
Thank you for your question. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having this problem. There are a variety of causes such as poor blood supply, too thin skin, excessive wound tension, or trauma from the forceps used during surgery. If you’re only three weeks Postop it’s important to give it time to heal, e.g. 6-9 months. If it persists then the scar can be slowly removed. CO2 laser and some antiscar creams can also help reduce scarring.  Best wishes
What plastic surgery is possible after radiotherapy to the neck?
Neck surgery after radiation
Jul 29, 2017
Thank you for your question. I have successfully done face and neck lift on radiated patients but there is an increased risk of wound failure especially for radiation doses greater than 40cGy. This risk is not present in areas outside the radiation field so rhinoplasty and hair transplant should be OK. Bone necrosis most likely in the mandible
I have a totally destroyed septum and have a hole in the soft palate. What can be done?
Septal hole
Jul 18, 2017
Dear Etsy,  this could be a very serious problem. If not already done, it is important that the edges of the septal and palate holes get biopsied and blood work done looking for autoimmune and vasculitis conditions.  If these have been done then there are ways to reconstruct the palate and septum. The simplest way to manage the palate defect would be a denture with an obturator that fills the hole so what’s in your mouth doesn’t get into the nose. Hope this helps. Keep me posted
My nose feels weird, like I had local anesthesia there, could something be wrong?
Numb nose after rhinoplasty
Jul 9, 2017
When the skin is lifted from the nasal bones and cartilage structures the small nerves are severed so that the nasal skin is numb. Almost always the sensation returns to normal. Postoperative swelling can also cause some altered sensation with facial movements around the nose. What you’re experiencing are is completely normal. Hope that helps
I have developed open roof deformity 3 months post-op, what might have gone wrong?
Open roof after rhinoplasty
Jul 9, 2017
Thank you for sharing your concern. Open roof can manifest as the swelling subsides.  It can result from scarring distracting the nasal bones or if they weren’t completely mobilized.  Widening is a common consequence. Share your concerns with your surgeon who can discuss corrective options. Best wishes
The shape of my nose changed after septoplasty and turbinate reduction for breathing problems, can
Appearance change after septoplasty
Jul 9, 2017
Thank you for your question. About 5% of patients can have a cosmetic change after septoplasty because the forward cartilage portion of the septum that was straightened supports the flexible nasal tip. Swelling, packing, or splints could account for some of your changes so see what happens once it is removed and the swelling subsides over the next couple months. Share your concerns with your surgeon. Best wishes
Concerned about blister over hematoma site after necklift and facelift?
Hematoma after neck lift
Jun 25, 2017
Thank you for your question. An undrained hematoma can become infected or decrease the skin’s blood supply and make the skin start to break down. It’s worth trying to get it refrained to prevent these complications. Best wishes
8 months post op, neck lift seems to be failing. Can this be fixed?
Neck sag after lift
Jun 6, 2017
Thank you for your question. Sorry to hear that these problems are developing. It appears as if the platysma muscles have separated forming the parallel bands in the front of the neck. Most likely they will need to be reattached to each other which will also help some of the volume loss under the chin. Some of the fullness behind these bands comes from the submandibular saliva gland.  best wishes
Second opinion required for rhinoplasty, 25 years of sinusitis issues.
Sinusitis and rhinoplasty
May 30, 2017
Based on the CT the posterior septum was never fixed at the first procedure and the right lower turbinate has hypertrophied so that it may be hard to breathe. With a CT that shows no sinus disease or structural problems that would lead to infection I would be concerned about allergy, acid reflux, and most importantly, immune dysfunction. Loss of smell after infection is more likely in women and may recover with nasal steroids. I suggest seeing someone expert in sinus disease. Your nose has …
Neck lift 9 wks ago, with no problem, not even a bruise! What are these unsightly vertical lines an
Neck lines after lift
May 13, 2017
Thank you for sharing your concerns. At nine weeks most irregularities such as these have settled down. The more central vertical bands look like platysma bands that either separated or weren’t attached. The other changes most likely are because the neck skin wasn’t widely undermined and elevated and allowed to redrape over the new muscle position so that it bunched up. Continue the massage for now, share your concerns, and it these changes persist consider a second opinion. Best wishes
Was my middle left turbinate reduced?
Reduced turbinate
May 13, 2017
Comparing the two scans nothing was done with the middle turbinate and at the plane provided on the CT the inferior turbinates look the same. It’s HIGHLY unlikely that you have empty nose syndrome. After septoplasty the left side has more symptoms and recovers longer because that’s usually where the incision is made. The only thing new on the scan is a cyst or polyp in the left maxillary sinus which are fairly common and usually asymptomatic. It’s possible it might be the source of what…
Is my nasal CT scan “normal”?
CT for congestion
Apr 30, 2017
CT poorly demonstrates a deviated septum. The turbinates are full. If it improves with Afrin that’s a good clue the congestion is from the turbinate. If there isn’t much improvement with Afrin but is much better when the nostril is pulled to the side then the nasal valve is too narrow. There are ways to correct a narrow valve or reduce the turbinate. Hope this answer helps
Could I have Silent Sinus Syndrome?
Silent sinus syndrome
Apr 28, 2017
The inward eye movement could be from silent sinus syndrome but it would be very unusual to see it bilaterally. Hemifacial atrophy is also a possibility. This condition can occur from reduced volume of either the frontal or maxillary sinuses. A sinus CT confirms the diagnosis. Hope you find an answer to your concerns
Is it possible to have a ruptured eardrum after a lower face and neck lift?
Ear drum perforation after facelift
Apr 23, 2017
Sorry to hear about your ear.  It is normal to get blood down into the ear canal during facelift. Oftentimes a piece of cotton is placed to prevent it. It’s possible for dried blood to affect the hearing immediately afterward. If the cotton were placed in too far or a suction used to clean out the blood a perforation could occur. The PA scraping the drum could also have caused it. Fortunately over 90% heal without surgery. Best wishes.
