Hair growing in the opposite direction. Can this be fixed without replacing the transplanted follicles
Hair Transplant “Mills” – Post Transplant Hair Growing in the Wrong Direction
Feb 18, 2019
Thank you for your question and photography to review. Most likely many of the previously transplanted follicles will have to be removed and “recycled” in a separate procedure to correct the angle and direction of hair growth. It is unfortunate that this type of unnecessary complication is on the rise. Many prospective patients are considering having procedures performed at hair transplant “mills” based on price alone as their primary decision-making factor. They…
Why am I having severe hair loss?
Female Hair Loss
Feb 17, 2019
Thanks for your question and submitting photos for review. Your medical workup appears to be complete except that you did not report that scalp biopsy had been performed, nor did you provide a family history of hair loss. The area behind your right ear has the appearance of alopecia areata, (AA). AA is autoimmune condition that is usually self limited and the area(s) affected typically regrow hair over time. Therefore, AA is not something that one would…
I am nearly 72 hours after having 3500 grafts FUE hair transplant, what is the correct method of apply
Shampoo Post Transplant
Feb 17, 2019
Thanks for your question. I recommend that patients place a small hand towel, (“wash rag”), over their transplanted scalp as they enter the shower. Let the warm shower water pour onto the hand towel to avoid direct shower water pressure contact with the transplanted follicles, yet allow for softening the crusts on the scalp. Shampoo or conditioner can be placed directly onto the hand towel. “Press and pat” the hand towel with your flat hands for shampoo and/or…
Do you have any ideas on why or what in regard to bluish rings?
“Blueish/purple rings” post FUE
Feb 17, 2019
While this may not be common, and it is showing improvement in your postoperative day #4 photo, there are always individual variances in healing characteristics. I suspect that your reported donor scalp changes will be self limited and heal just fine. Best regards, Robert J. Reese, DO, FISHRS. Past-President: ABHRS.
Slow growth after 14 months or poor hair transplant FUE? Can I expect more grafts to grow? Finasteride
Poor Hair Growth After FUE
Feb 15, 2019
Thank you for your question, and for submitting good photography. Unfortunately, this is likely your final result. Assuming that the technical aspects of your procedure were performed properly, (donor harvesting, and placing of follicles in the recipient scalp), you could have experienced what Richard Shiell, MD, (a great hair transplant surgeon, and an even better human being), described as the “X-Factor”. X-Factor is when, despite performing a technically sound hair…
Is my donor area healing normally after FUE?
Is My Donor Healing Normall After 4,500 Graft FUE
Feb 15, 2019
Thank you for your question. Looking at your side view picture, it appears that your transplant was performed only in the very front of your scalp. I can’t imagine that there could even be a remote need to transplant 4,500 follicles into such a relatively small area of recipient scalp. While I can understand a patients desire to complete the hair restoration process in one “single pass” procedure, overharvesting the donor zone can create long term deleterious effects for…
Can the pores be dialted for graft implantation after the hair is extracted?
Dilating Pores
Feb 15, 2019
You likely misunderstood what your doctor was referring to. Modern hair restoration surgery technique utilizes tiny incisions to place individual follicles. In the past, when larger multi-follicular unit grafts were used for transplantation, dilators were used to stretch the recipient incisions to make placing of these large grafts easier to perform. But this is an antiquated technique. If your hair restoration surgeon is still using dilators on recipient…
