68 Year Old Mrs. Treated With Lip Augmentation Patient By Dr. Ran Y. Rubinstein, MD, Newburgh, New York (12550)
Before: Our patient showed us photos from her 30’s and 40’s to demonstrate how she used to have beautiful full lips. In her 60’s they have thinned out and developed wrinkles. She was fearful that she would look fake. After: 3 months after filler injections. Aging lips (yellow circle) are treated very differently from a 20-year-old coming in wanting full lips. They don’t necessarily want fuller lips, rather restore what they used to have. This requires a totally different approach. First, the bony foundation (green circles) that our lips sit on weakens with age causing the lips to sag. This must first strengthen with supportive hyaluronic fillers such as Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft, or volume stimulators like Sculptra. Not doing so will leave patients looking odd, full lips but collapsed chins and jaw lines. Our patient had this bony volume loss restored before we filled her lips. The lips themselves also require different products and different technique vs. a 20-year-old. Patients in their 60’s don’t necessarily want their lips to project outward more, as this can create the dreaded duck look. Instead, they benefit from restoration in the vertical height of their lips as shown in our patient using the “fences” injection method. A more delicate hyaluronic filler was used for a more subtle result such as Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Refyne. (Sep 21, 2020)
