He went on to complete a five-year general surgery residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and then served a three-year residency and fellowship program in plastic surgery at Washington University’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He remained in St. Louis to complete a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at the Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Deformities Institute at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital before establishing his private practice in Baltimore.

Throughout his career, Dr. Schuster has dedicated time to researching and improving on advanced plastic surgery techniques. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery awarded him a Certificate of Excellence for his study of blood supply during facelift procedures, which helped identify safer facelift methods. Today, he shares his surgical knowledge as a clinical instructor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Prominent nasal spine/nasolabial angle - what is achievable with rhinoplasty?

The fullness at the junction of the nose and upper lip can be caused by a few things. A prominent anterior nasal spine is possible but not as frequent as you might think. You should be able to feel the hard bone protruding. More frequently it is the caudal septum which is too long. Finally, the tip might be pulled too far forward causing. Tenting of the skin. All are easily fixed with rhinoplasty. This is where a good exam is really needed. Good luck.

Does bromelain supplement taken before surgery help with swelling after rhinoplasty?

Bromelain is the active ingredient in pineapple that help with recovery. I think helps more with bruising than general inflammation/swelling. I recommend taking it after surgery. Make sure you let your surgeon know everything you are taking and get permission before using any recovery supplements before and after surgery.

Painful lump on nose 2 year after rhinoplasty - what can this be?

It is difficult to see but it looks like it might just be an irregularity of the cartilage. It could also be a suture but your surgeon would know best. Not sure why it hurts. As long as it’s not red nor inflamed you don’t have to really worry about it. But if it’s bothering you go see another surgeon. Take a copy of your OP note with you. Good luck.

Idon’t really understand the photos. Are these before and after or just a progression of your healing? The photo of you with your hair down looks like the tip has been over shortened. A Polly beak deformity is when the dorsum is lowered too much and the tip does not project leaving it looking round. Yours is similar but a classic case. Nevertheless there is room for improvement if you are unhappy.

You have extremely thick skin. I think your nose low and very wide throughout. I suspect you will need the bones to be narrowed and cartilage grafting to raise the dorsum. You should expect your nose to look better but you should not expect to get a chiseled height defined result. Your skin also looks inflamed. You will get better results if you can improve the quality of your skin. I recommend Alastin Nectar and appointments with a good aesthetician. Good luck.

Overall there is nothing too far off with your nose. I think the tip is the main area as it is disproportionately large. The dorsum has a small bump and is perhaps a little too big. Nasolabial folds and neck bands are very common complaints tat facelift surgeons see all of the time. The bands you see in the neck are from the edges of the platysma muscle. These need to be either sewn together in the front, pulled from the sides or both. Botox might help a little as a non-surgical option. Your nasolabial folds might need surgery, either a facelift, less likely a midface lift, or both. You really need a exam to figure out how your "face" moves. good luck.
