My front teeth is half covered by my lips. What can I do to make it show more?
There are surgical and non-surgical options
Aug 19, 2021
Hi thanks for your inquiry. It is difficult to see exactly what the distance is between your nasal base and the upper lip because it is cropped from the photo but there are both surgical and non-surgical options to improve the appearance of the lips. The simplest thing you can do is a botox lip flip, where a small amount of botox is placed along the vermilion border to relax the muscles that pull the lip down. This causes a very subtle increase in the height of the lip. However it doesn’t…
Why the best treatment for my deep wrinkles and atrophy around my mouth?
Combination of treatments
Dec 28, 2020
This is a very common area of concern for patients. Deep lines and wrinkles in the perioral region are sometimes known as “smokers lines” even though they’re not typically from smoking! The best strategy is to use some form of dermal filler to fill the deepest lines and then treat the skin with resurfacing. Most commonly we use temporary dermal fillers, although fat transfer can also be used for filling the deep lines. Resurfacing technologies include either microneedling, chemical peels,…
Does Restylane Kysse really last longer than other fillers?
Lip filler can be unpredictable
Dec 28, 2020
In my experience Restylane Kysse lasts at least as long as Juvederm, typically between 6-9 months in most patients. The biggest advantage to using Kysse is that it is a very soft, pliable filler so it feels incredibly natural in the lips. I do not see as much immediate post injection swelling as with other fillers as well. It is a great lip filler in my opinion!
Is it time for a facelift?
There are a number of options!
Feb 24, 2020
Hi there and thank you for your question. Early 40s is a very common time for women to start thinking about facial rejuvenation procedures. There are a number of options available to you that range from injectable treatments, non-invasive and minimally invasive skin tightening treatments and of course surgical interventions with a mini facelift. The advantage of less invasive options of course is they tend to be slightly less costly than surgery and they usually have less down time. The…
I am ready to take the plunge for a mini facelift or neck lift. Can this be done in 2 phases if I need b
Question about separating procedures
Feb 24, 2020
Hello and thank you for your question! Based on your photographs provided, I would suggest that you strongly consider doing the neck, jowls and cheeks at the same time. Though it may seem daunting to undergo these procedures at once, doing them in combination does not increase your overall healing time and will lead to a smoother, more natural result. Additionally, it will avoid needing to have 2 surgeries, 2 bouts of anesthesia and 2 periods of recovery and healing. I would suggest…
Is it appropriate to use absorbable epidermal sutures for lower facelift? Also anterior or posterior Tra
Types of sutures vary
Feb 6, 2020
Thanks for your question. Surgeons vary in their decision to use different suture materials in different parts of the face. You can discuss your concerns regarding suture type with your surgeon, as it is likely they have a reason for selecting particular suture material. As for location of the tragal incision, this also varies by surgeon preference. Both incisions are acceptable, however some people feel that an incision anterior to the tragus is slightly more visible and an incision…
Would it be too much of me to ask for the deep plane technique to be a requirement, when choosing a surg
Deep plane surgery
Feb 6, 2020
This is a great question that is often debated even at national and international meetings!
Every facelift surgeon has their own preference in techniques and this is based on training, experience and comfort level with a particular approach.
People often malign one technique over another due to risks of nerve injury. In particular, deep plane facelifts are often thought to have a higher nerve injury rate due to the anatomical location of the facelift dissection. However, this…
Is it really true that facelifts turn out worse if you’ve had laser treatment??
No need to worry
Feb 6, 2020
I agree with the other surgeons who have commented on your question. There is frequently misinformation that can quickly lead to confusion! Prior laser treatments do not preclude you from having a facelift if you so desire. It is true that some of the minimally invasive treatments such as Thermi, Face Tite, etc can cause subcutaneous fibrosis. However, even this would not prevent you from having a facelift! It may make the lift more technically challenging for the surgeon, but as long…
Am I a candidate for liquid rhino?
Consider liquid rhinoplasty!
Feb 4, 2020
Hi thanks for your question and photos. It is certainly possible to improve the appearance of your nose and smooth out the bridge without making the nose look overly large. The key is to do a subtle treatment to camouflage the bump without overly projecting the bridge. I’d suggest you schedule an in person consultation with a facial plastic surgeon for an evaluation. Good luck!
Neck lift surgeons: are neck lifts (platysmaplasty) harder after a patient has had RF microneedling?
Platysmaplasty after RF treatments
Feb 4, 2020
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for your questions. I echo the answers provided by the other doctors. Many of these minimally invasive energy treatments (there are a variety of them, not just Morpheus8) cause their “tightening” effect by creating a layer of scar tissue in the soft tissue layer just under the skin. While this can provide modest improvements for a short while, they often fall short of delivering lasting, durable results. This scar tissue can make a subsequent neck lift…
Do people really have full facelifts while totally conscious?
Anesthesia options
Feb 4, 2020
It is certainly possible to have a facelift done while completely awake with only local anesthesia. However, most patients find it more comfortable to have twilight IV sedation for the procedure so that they’re able to relax comfortably (and sleep!) without requiring general anesthesia. This requires both the anesthesiologist and surgeon to be very comfortable with this level of anesthesia. Not all surgeons do this so you’ll have to check with your surgeon to see if this is something…
Do most (highly skilled) surgeons use before and after photo simulations for facelifts?
Difficult to do photo simulation for facelifts
Feb 4, 2020
Hi this is a question that comes up quite frequently. Photo morphing is extremely popular in rhinoplasty and is commonly done for the front view and profile view photographs. This is because in 2 dimensions it is easy to manipulate the pixels and create a realistic simulation that can be used as a guide for the operation. Unfortunately, for facelift surgery it is very difficult to reliably create computer simulations because this requires moving pixels in 3 dimensions and it will result in a…
Will a neck lift help my jowls at all?
No need for GA!
Feb 4, 2020
Hi thanks for your question. You absolutely do not need to have general anesthesia to have a neck lift. It is possible to have your procedures under pure local anesthesia or twilight IV sedation if you prefer. I almost never use general. When you call to schedule your consult with a surgeon the staff should be able to tell you over the phone what types of anesthesia are used.
It is possible for a neck lift to also address the jowls but the specifics of the exact procedure will be…
What is the difference between a deep plane, SMAS and S-Lift?
Terminology explained
Feb 3, 2020
Hi Elizabeth,
This is quite a common question and I will echo some of what has already been said by some of the other experts who have weighed in. Just below the skin and fat layer in the face, there is a fibrous, muscular layer known as the SMAS. How the SMAS is treated forms the basis for the various type of facelifts. Options include simple tightening (without lifting) the SMAS which is the S-lift, or lifting a limited portion of the SMAS, which most people refer to…
Best approach for platysmal bands neck lift?
Best approach for platysmaplasty
Feb 3, 2020
Hi there, thanks for your question! With platysmal banding of this degree, I agree with many of the other surgeons here that the best way would be to approach your neck would be with a combination of treating the bands through a submental incision (called a platysmaplasty) as well as tightening the lower face and neck through a facelift. I usually treat the platysmal bands first through the submental incision and then do the remaining work from the lower part of the face which allows you to…
