Second female hair transplant to add density?
You do not have to shave the recipient area
Sep 24, 2023
Thank you so much for the excellent question. No, you do not have to shave the recipient area. Yes, a second FUT is entirely possible. We would make the second donor site either above or below the previous one and would not affect the previous scar. Your hair will not be thinned out (decrease in density) with a FUT surgery as that is the advantage of FUT over FUE. Since the scalp tissue is removed along with the hair follicles, there is no change in the remaining density at the donor site...
Does sunscreen cause Frontal Fibrosing alopecia?
Recent study finds that sunscreen does not trigger Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA)
Sep 24, 2023
Thank you very much for the excellent question. A recent cross-sectional study in 2022 found that FFA is not triggered by sunscreen use. But rather, patients with FFA were found to have higher levels of actinic damage, possibly explaining their increase use of sunscreens. So, in other words, people with FFA tend to use more sunscreen but the increase in sunscreen use does not appear to be the cause of their FFA. I hope that helps.
Can certain foods trigger alopecia areata?
General lack of research regarding effects of different diets on alopecia areata
Sep 21, 2023
Thank you for the excellent question. This is an often asked question, a question with many hypotheses and even more "research-seems-to-show" answers yet a distinct lack of solid unbiased research-based answer. The truth of the matter is that it is unknown. There are some thoughts and even less solid research suggesting that diets low in processed foods, low in polyunsaturated fats, low in artificial sweeteners, and low in gluten as well as diets high in anti-inflammatory foods (such as the...
How do you identify TE with AGA?
Telogen Effluvium vs Androgenetic Alopecia
Sep 21, 2023
Thank you so much for your question, and an excellent it is indeed! Yes, TE can occur in the setting of AGA and it can be very difficult to identify the two and the contribution of each at any given moment in time. However, TE is temporary and the hair lost will eventually return. Granted, in your case, since you began taking finasteride, it could account for some return of hair due to AGA as well. In the end, you may not ultimately know just how much of your hair loss was attributed to AGA...
Is my shedding normal in AGA? Or do I have TE?
Telogen Effluvium vs Androgenetic Alopecia
Sep 21, 2023
Thank you so much for your inquiry! I hope I will be able to help and shed some light on this important issue/question. Typically, the hair loss associated with TE (telogen effluvium... temporary and oftentimes due to stress) is diffuse and even. The hair loss from AGA (androgenetic alopecia... male pattern baldness in men) follows a recognizable pattern. TE is general temporary whereas AGA is permanent and progressive. With the pull test, one would expect to find less hairs removed in the...
There is minimal research on autologous fat cell derived stem cells. Does this work or not?
New and emerging treatment
Sep 21, 2023
Thank you so much for your inquiry. Currently, the efficacy of injecting autologous human adipose tissue (fat cells) is a new and emerging potential treatment option to promote hair growth and combat androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness in men). The studies are in their early phases and study sizes are small (one study has a sample size of just 9). However, the results thus far are promising. At this phase of the research, it is just too early to tell how effective, if at all, such...
Is there any risk to having a hair transplant procedure 3 weeks after rhinoplasty?
No additional risk
Sep 12, 2023
Hi, there is no additional risk by having your hair transplant done 3 weeks after rhinoplasty surgery if it is done via the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method. Unlike the FUE method, you do not need to be in a face down position at any point during the FUT surgery. This, however, might be a restriction if you plan to have your transplantation done via the FUE method though.
