What percentage of result should I see one most post rhinoplasty and septoplasty?
What percentage of result should be seen at 1 month
Mar 5, 2018
This is tough question to answer unless you are the surgeon who performed the operation. However, if you are still feeling puffy swelling, there should continue to be a good amount of improvement. Patience is the hardest part for patients (and surgeons) after rhinoplasty, but let it heal for a year before making an solid conclusions on its shape.Have a nice day!Michael M. Kim, MD

Would a revision rhinoplasty be best?
Mar 5, 2018

Wiggled my nose: Is it possible that I moved any grafts?
wiggling your nose after rhinoplasty
Mar 5, 2018
Hi imaNosey1,It's highly unlikely that you sustained any damage to your nose by just wiggling it a month after surgery. It would usually take a pretty hard strike to damage your nose at 4 weeks. Be careful out there!Michael M. Kim, MD
Am I a candidate for lip lift surgery? Other procedures?
Lip lift candidacy
Mar 4, 2018
Hi merkley5,I believe that you would be an excellent candidate for a lip lift. The typical attractive lip should have only about 12-14mm of "white" upper lip from the top of the Cupid's bow to the bottom of the nose. It would give you more tooth show and produce a thicker appearing red upper lip. It is a great procedure with minimal complications. As for other procedures, it is hard to see with only those two views, but as with many in your age group, you could probably benefit from a short ...
Dimple surgery. What is the process and cost of this surgery?
dimple surgery: process and cost
Mar 4, 2018
Hello dreace21,Thanks for your questions. Dimple surgery is a procedure that is typically done in the office under local anesthesia. The cost varies by locale, but each one is usually about $750-1000 per side. One thing to keep in mind is that the most natural end result is that dimple that is present when smiling, but absent when the face is at rest. However, during the healing process, you can have weeks to several months where the dimple is present at all times, so expect some "fade." You...
I am looking for doctor in USA who can perform deep plane face lift like this
deep plane facelift surgeons in the US
Mar 4, 2018
Hi tarije,You don't have to overseas for a deep plane facelift / revision facelift. In fact, if you are not inclined to travel, two excellent surgeons are close to you in Manhattan: Dr. Andrew Jacono, and Dr. David Rosenberg. I would schedule a consultation with one or both of those doctors to discuss your needs.Good luck,Michael M. Rhinoplasty with local anesthesia: Is there a shorter recovery time with less swelling?
less swelling with rhinoplasty under local anesthesia?
Mar 4, 2018
When you say "local anesthesia" I am going to assume that you mean "local anesthesia with sedation" which would be a lot more comfortable. When compared with general anesthesia (my preferred method), I wouldn't count on it giving you less swelling. I find that probably the most consistent difference between sedation and general is that there tends to be less nausea, sore throat, and patients tend to go home faster.I hope that helps.Michael M. I was born with a really flat nose. I've seen many options in Korea; can this be corrected in NYC fo
flat nose correction
Mar 4, 2018
Hello kevynkarson,Thanks for your question. You do seem to have a lack of cartilage support and structure. For noses like yours, I would utilize using some of your own rib cartilage to create a very strong framework. I don't think that fillers would be able to get you the structure you need. As for having this procedure done for under 10k in NYC, I'm not so sure about that. New York is very expensive and your surgery is more complex than the standard rhinoplasty. Therefore, it's important t...
Nose surgery (deviated septum and bump on top of nose) in August, 2017. Why can I see the tip of my
"tip of bone from the side" seen after rhinoplasty
Mar 4, 2018
Hi kamikami123,What you are seeing and possibly feeling there appears not to be bone but cartilage. In particular it appears to be the "medial crura" of the right "lower lateral cartilage." It is pretty common to have some asymmetry here due to the way it interacts or abuts with the bottom portion of the septal cartilage. Ask your surgeon at your next postoperative visit what he or she thinks and if there needs to be anything done about it.Have a nice day,Michael M. Kim, MD
Upturned nose tip after rhinoplasty, advice? It's been nearly 2 weeks since I had septorhinoplasty.
upturned nose after rhinoplasty
Mar 4, 2018
Hi myraluxur,It is really common for the nose to have too much rotation right after the surgery. This is usually a good thing since noses will often drop a few degrees postoperatively. I also believe that the post surgery swelling will also rotation the nose due to tension on the skin envelope. Please discuss with your particular surgeon who can shed more light on your particular situation.Have a nice day.Michael M. Kim, MD
1 month post-op rhinoplasty, Nose looked better at cast removal than now, advice?
Swelling at 1 month post rhinoplasty
Mar 4, 2018
Hi noserhino13,The famous singer Tom Petty put it best when he said that "the waiting is the hardest part." It certainly is. Depending on what was done and each patient's own skin thickness and healing characteristics, there can be great variability in swelling. In general, it takes a year for all of the swelling to go away, but the vast majority of it is gone within the first 2-4 weeks. It will get better for sure. You should also discuss your concerns with your surgeon. If applicable,...
Best type of doctor to release depressor septi muscle?
Best type of doctor to release depressor septi
Nov 26, 2017
Hi Conan27,The best type of doctor for this would be someone who does a fair amount of rhinoplasty. If a patient asked for just the depressor release, I think that the fastest and least traumatic way of doing this would be from under the lip. There would also be no visible scar. Also botox could be tried to see if you liked the effect as it could inactivate that muscle for about 3-4 months.Good luck,Michael M. Kim, MD
Should I go with permanent or dissolvable stitches inside my nose for rhinoplasty?
Choice of suture inside your nose for rhinoplasty
Nov 26, 2017
Hello ChristmasDay,It's a little odd that the surgeon would present you with the choice of suture materials inside your nose. It's one of those things of which there is no consensus. Some use permanent, some use dissolvable, and some use both. I don't think that it has a material difference in your result and it's probably not important enough to waste your energy thinking about it!Michael M. Kim, MD
Attacked by pet dog. Deep scar on face. Urgent advice needed!
Deep scar on face from dog attack
Nov 26, 2017
Hello ed.durden1,So sorry that you have to go through that. I would try to make an appointment with a surgeon ASAP. It is hard to tell from the 2nd photo, but occasionally excising some of the tissue that is nonviable at the edges will allow you to heal with a better scar. Also post procedure laser and steroid injections can also help with its appearance.Michael M. Kim, MD
Little pain associated with a facelift? How would they know?
How much pain after a facelift
Nov 26, 2017
Hi 8608anon,While it is true that there aren't that many surgeons who have had facelifts themselves, surgeons do have a lot of patients who have had multiple surgeries. Although everyone's response to post-surgical pain is different, in general, if you compared facial surgery to other types of surgery (orthopedic, gyn, abdominal, chest), facial surgery would rank low. That is not to say that it doesn't hurt because any kind of surgery hurts at least some. Therefore, I believe that most...
