The studies show no difference in results in the composite lift vs a SMAS lift, except there is more swelling and longer healing with the composite lift. The lateral sweep you mentioned is from pulling the superficial tissue back and up without addressing the deeper tissue. This gives an unnatural look. I would recommend seeking a surgeon with years of experience to get the most natural look after your surgery.

In most cases the swelling from a facelift should be completely subsided in 3-6 months after the surgery. Much of this dissipates in the first couple weeks so you can return to most social functions, but the healing continues for several months. I always suggest to my patients that they plan for the longer time to be on the safe side.

A "Weekend Facelift" is simply a less involved mini-facelift or sometimes a variant using suspension sutures. It refers to needing very little recovery or 'down time'. A mini-facelift may be ideal for some people, but the suspension suture techniques have had complications and typically only last a few months. I would recommend seeking consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon with many years of experience and with whom you feel comfortable.

The first aspect to evaluate are the improvement in the contours and a natural, pleasing appearance. The second is the photographic technique with consistent angles and the SAME lighting. Some deceptive photos have overhead lighting in the pre op photo and a flash in the post op photo. Try this yourself with your mobile phone. Turn off the flash and take a selfie. Now turn on the flash and take a selfie and you will have a great idea how this effects the outcome.

Based on your photos everything looks to be within normal limits of healing. There may be some irregularities of the healing tissue a this point in recovery and should calm down well. Massaging the lumps will help with the swelling and likely speed your recovery.

Yes, the nicotine in traditional cigarettes and e-cigs causes vasoconstricition or reduced blood flow to the tissues healing. If this is restricted too much, the tissue may not survive. Other harmful chemicals are inhaled with smoking and have negative effects on the body. It is best to stop smoking completely, but definitely before and after a surgical procedure.
