It is a very good question. I am not aware of any relationship between oral contraceptives and capsular contracture. The risk of breast cancer associated with oral contraceptives is very low for women under 40 with no family history of breast cancer. Thank you for your question. Different surgeons may do different procedures for similar indications, because, in their hands, it gets the best results. From your photos, I would recommend a lower body lift, based on your circumferential vertical skin excess. This would improve, but may not fully address, the horizontal skin excess. Great question. If the abdominal wall is intact, without any pre-existing weaknesses, it would be unlikely that a lower body lift would cause a hernia. The most important consideration is how much visceral fat is present. If there is significant intra-abdominal fat, tightening of the abdominal muscles could create enough intra-abdominal pressure to create a hernia in a weakened area. I would discuss these concerns with your plastic surgeon.

You have described a red, tender mass in your suture line. These are changes that your surgeon should be made aware of. It may be a suture abscess that could require draining and removal of the suture. I agree that you should see your surgeon as soon as possible.

As others have said, there are a number of reasons for wounds to open. It is always best to have your surgeon see it and treat it appropriately. Your wounds are small, and appear to be healing. If this is something simple, such as an exposed suture, your surgeon could remove it and hasten your recovery.

Thanks for your question. If you were thin to start with, small contour irregularities would not be unusual and should improve with time. If the platysma is sutured in the mid-line, a small amount of fat will be removed from between the muscles, to improve the contour and facilitate closure of the muscle. The muscle closure may create a temporary contour irregularity, but the fat removal between the muscles should not.
2 weeks post op and still pretty sore with muscle spasms frequently, is that normal?

Thanks for your question. This not unusual at all. Patients may have varying amounts of pain in the immediate post op period. This usually resolves fairly quickly. However, as the initial pain resolves, patients become more active and some will develop muscle spasms as the result. Decreased use of the pectoralis muscle will help and sometimes muscle relaxants may help as well. This usually resolves after a few weeks.

Your question I a common concern in the immediate post operative period. Everything is swollen and a tight pocket can be compress the implants against the chest wall making it very difficult to appreciate the eventual outcome of the procedure. Be patient, you are not looking at your final result.

Thank you for your question. It is not unusual for large implants to create the appearance of symmastia in the early post-op period. This should improve as the swelling subsides and the pockets enlarge to accommodate the implants.

There are a number of possible causes for this problem. it could be fat, fluid, or scar tissue. You should discuss this with your plastic surgeon to determine what it is, what to expect, and what could be done.

It is impossible to say what would be appropriate for you without examining you in person. In general, larger breasts will become a more important feature of your appearance. Being too big or too fake can be very subjective. However, 450cc would be a very reasonable D-cup for many women.

A Tummy Tuck will tighten the abdominal muscles and loose abdominal skin. It may improve posture and core strength. The lower abdominal bulge we see after having children is due to thinning and separation of the rectus muscles. When you stand up, the intra-abdominal contents exert the greatest pressure in the pelvis and lower abdomen, creating a bulge. A tummy tuck probably has no effect on the position of the uterus.

Thank you for your question regarding age/implants. I would say that you are NEVER too old to feel good about yourself! However, make sure you get the proper clearance for your PCP and would recommend a Mammogram. Age is just a number...I have patients well into their 60-70's that still want to feel good about themselves and restore confidence. Good Luck.

Thank you so much for your question. It is important to eat a healthy/balanced diet while recovering from surgery. Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat a lot of plant based foods and protein. Constipation is always a problem/concern when taking pain medications. You will want to make sure that you incorporate a stool softener into your daily routine. A recliner is always a nice benefit when recovering from surgery. Good Luck.
